Project Overview
In this project, I had the opportunity to elevate an existing system screen (Issues tab) into a pivotal management tool, serving the daily needs of hundreds of users and customers of Percepto Autonomous Inspection & Monitoring solution (AIM).
The following slides outline the challenges faced and the course of action taken to address them effectively.
*For a comprehensive understanding of the project, including the design process, considerations, and impact, I would love to engage in in-depth discussions.
Background
Percepto's autonomous drone system is deployed at an industrial site to conduct scheduled monitoring missions.
The system aims to detect malfunctions such as gas leaks or broken parts.
Issue reports are generated automatically through AI, and administrators can also manually input issues for the system to learn from.
Presently, all issues are centralized and accessible through the Issues tab for operators and other users to review only.
The Challenge
Problems with Issue tracking and resolution:
- Static event log leads to manual and undocumented work
- Lack of clear issue status and actions taken
- Difficulty navigating due to uniform status display
- Time-consuming, inefficient, and error-prone process
- Missing issue-specific solution descriptions (CTA)
Product Requirements
Main goal - revamping the screen to become a daily management tool
- Enable quick viewing of the list of active issues for easy identification
- Provide fault classification information (severity, type, date reported, etc.)
- Allow users to take actions on issues, such as updating status and adding personal notes
- KPI - How we measured success:
- Increase user interaction with the interface
- Lower the active issues to 0
User Journey
Mapping the various options, bringing up new and even exaggerated ideas, and finally returning to KPI's - simplifying the process the user goes through and focusing the goals.
Final Product
Before
- Static event log leads to manual and undocumented work
- Lack of clear issue status and actions taken
- Difficulty navigating due to uniform status display
- Time-consuming, inefficient, and error-prone process
- Missing issue-specific solution descriptions (CTA)
- The list is long and tedious, not sorted in a way that encourages management and resolving
After - Design Approach
- Manageable gallery view
- Allows to overview issues faster and easier
- Allows to see a clear preview of the images without having to enter each issue
- Collapsible lists, sorted by status - allows to clean some visual noise and focus
- Encouragement to resolve old issues and "clean" the log
- Issues are now displayed on the map marked with colors according to severity level - allows to browse issue by location and assets
Insights and Outcomes
- Enhanced User Engagement: The intuitive interface and user-friendly design increased user interaction with the tool.
- Streamlined Issue Tracking: Fault classification information and a sortable list improved issue identification and prioritization.
- Increased Issue Resolution Efficiency: Comprehensive insights and notes expedited problem-solving and communication.
- Improved Documentation: Automated logging reduced manual work and provided clear issue history.
- Geographic Issue Visualization: Mapping issues based on severity empowered informed decision-making.
- Significant Reduction in Active Issues: The revamped tool led to a substantial decrease in active issues, indicating improved issue resolution efficiency.
- Time Savings: Efficient issue management increased overall productivity.
- Enhanced Safety and Site Management: Faster issue resolution improved operational safety.
The revamped Issues Management Tool proved to be a vital daily management tool, driving user engagement, efficient issue tracking, and enhanced safety practices for Percepto AIM's users and customers.
